Derbyshire Ladies Squad v Matlock Men Match – Sunday 25 April 2021

We played our second pre-season match against the Matlock men – an annual event keenly played with some friendly banter.  This was to be a full day for our squad starting with our first coaching session in the morning prior to the match.  Adrian Saxton split the squad into 3 groups (rule of 6 and strict Covid guidelines being observed).  Pitching with target practice, chipping with up and down challenge where every hole is a par 2 using different lies and target work on the range too.  Thankfully, the weather albeit cold, was sunny and dry and we all kept moving to keep warm before our match in the afternoon.

Matlock Captain, Andy Brown and Vice Captain Neil Abdy were first off the tee against Debbie Deakin and Sarah Lundy.  The squad were giving many shots and really played well with very close matches.  Matlock Men were the winners 3 ½ / 2 ½ and we had some great comments from the men saying how impressed they were seeing the squad play some fabulous shots, wishing us success in our golfing season.

Good to see President Cynthia with us before travelling to see the Derbyshire Men play at Chevin.  Many thanks to Paul Mooney who is the key organiser of the Matlock men for this event making sure all his team are in place – next year, we may have to look at the handicap allowances!  Thanks to Christian, General Manager at Matlock for all his help.  A huge thanks to Judy and Shelagh for providing refreshments at the halfway house (outside) – the drinks, cakes and pork pies were a real treat.

Next Sunday sees the Derbyshire ladies play at Chevin against the Warwickshire ladies –  County Week format, so 2 x foursomes immediately followed by 3 x singles matches off scratch morning and afternoon.  It’s great to finally see our Derbyshire ladies playing golf and its good to welcome players  moving up from the Junior Girls – Hannah Morrison, Imogen Rafferty and Grace Harrison.
